Steven Gerrard has told Liverpool to 'forget about the title' and focus instead on getting 4th place and qualifying for the Champions League.
Liverpool has won only one of the last 7 matches and are currently in 5th place, three points behind Everton and level with Aston Villa and Manchester City in the bid for 4th.
Gerrard told the Daily Star: "We realise now that we're facing a big challenge to finish in the top four. We've got to forget about the title and focus on fighting for fourth place."
There are a lot of teams around us who are in good form and playing well, so it's important that we don't let our standards drop."
Jamie Redknapp, former Liverpool midfielder, believes the Reds will never win the title under Benitez.
He told Sky Sports, "I don't think Liverpool can win it under Rafa Benitez. I think they are further away than they have ever been before. They have got no chance."
"I really thought that this could be their year."
"But the rotation - they make so many changes and you don't get consistency or understanding. The best managers like Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson keep basically the same team and system. In their big names, they field their strongest team."
"When Crouch and Torres play upfront, they look as if they can make it work,. They get one or two games together, but then Benitex changes it."
I've been a member since July 2003, maybe one of the first to join the Silver Circle. 2004 was a good year but I really enjoyed the long run we had in, I think, July 2005. It was exhilarating! 2006-2007 was not as exciting although still quite profitable and so far 2007-2008 looks quite good. I'm wondering if we're going to hit a long one again soon. Anyway, it's been a pleasure as always with your service, Greg. Armstrong and you are one of the few people I trust on the internet. You have made my retirement so much more fun and financially happy!
Best Wishes, Trent Wrayford, Sidney
